£10 Can Make a Difference! (continued)

December 2007

Ten Pounds make a difference contest winners Dawn Henderson, head of science at the school, says, "The idea the young people came up with was terrific and really imaginative. The brief was to set out how you'd make a difference with £10 and I think they've achieved this in a very creative way. It's a great way to educate their peers on the small changes they can make which will have an impact, and at the same time encourage them to interact with other young people from the feeder schools in the area."

Managing Director, Amanda Pearce Burton recently visited the school and presented the class with a winners cheque for £100, part of which will be used to create the school's own book highlighting what primary schools in the area are doing to support sustainability and the environment. Amanda comments, "This winning idea was instantly inspirational! The judges were really impressed with the approach the class had taken, particularly the clever way of getting other schools involved. We're really looking forward to seeing the result of the project!" Whilst at the school, Amanda saw class 11PT announce their idea in assembly and start the project by passing on a camera and book to pupils from Harrow Gate Primary School, was given a tour of the facilities, spent time talking to pupils, and joined some of class 11PT for a school dinner.
